The Descent from the Cross

I found these two pictures on the Life archives on Google. They depict a paraliturgical rite of taking the effigy of Our Lord from the Cross. I remember reading about this in a book-- at the 12th station of the Via Crucis, the Franciscans process into the Greek Orthodox chapel bearing the Cross, and vested as if for Mass. Gradually they remove the vestments and the ritual climaxes in the image of the dead Christ being wrapped in an altar cloth (I think) and taken into repose. I'm not really a liturgics geek so I would welcome any and all corrections about what I have posted.
